S3 Modern studies
We start by exploring the issues surrounding the world development gap. We look at which countries are more and less developed, reasons for the development gap, case-studies of countries like Bangladesh, globalisation and what is being done to help by individual countries like the UK and international organisations. Pupils can demonstrate their skills, knowledge and understanding through an extended writing piece on globalisation and a group decision-making task on Haiti.
We then look at the global issue of terrorism. Pupils learn what we mean by terrorism, about the different causes of terrorism, case-studies of the troubles in Northern Ireland and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and what is being done to tackle terrorism worldwide. Pupils can display their skills, knowledge and understanding through an investigation and presentation on a terrorist attack or conflict of their choice.
