S1 Modern Studies
We start by exploring rights and responsibilities worldwide. We look at what we mean by rights and responsibilities and why they are important, there are case-studies of children in the UK and abroad who do not get all of their rights and we explore how different groups fight for our rights and, how pupils can get involved. Pupils can demonstrate their skills, knowledge and understanding through their newspaper article on human rights issues.
We then go on to investigate the UK political system with a focus on the Scottish Parliament. Pupils will learn about elections and voting, political parties, who our representatives are and how they represent us at the Scottish Parliament and, how they can become politically active themselves. Pupils can show their skills and abilities through carrying out a survey and then using the data they collect to make conclusions.
